After creating Texas Log Homes' brochure, they asked me to redesign their billboard.

I love it when marketing materials match and provide a unified presentation, so it was no question that I would use the design scheme that I created in the brochure and extrapolate it to the billboard.

The only real challenge I had was that the client wanted both of his logos on the board and that the board is fairly small (32x10). He also orginally wanted half the board to be a photo of his signature house.

After some discussion, I was able to convince him that making the house take up half the board came at the expense of almost every other element. On such a small board, I was very concerned that the correct information be communicated in a particular order in order to maximize retention by the viewer.

The logos are larger than I would have liked them and I think phone numbers (except numbers like 713-CALL-MAP) on billboards are a waste of space. But sometimes design is about concession, and those are a couple of concessions that were made in order to keep the message clear and the theme intact.

If you happen to be heading toward Austin on Highway 290, look for this board on your right just after you pass through Hempstead.
