Rather than create a more traditional logo for Sam Houston State's Family Weekend, the Office of Student Life asked me instead to create a Bearkat family portrait. I really liked the idea. Ever since I was Sammy Bearkat back in college, I had always wondered what Sammy's parents would look like. Sammy's dad is actually one of the early design concepts when we were trying to redesign him (minus the moustache.) Sammy's mom is the way I wish I would have drawn Samantha Bearkat (who's not around anymore, thankfully) when she got a facelift. I also like that Sammy is a little smaller and more child-like compared to his parents.
