The sister of a friend had inoperable cancer. Her family had created a blog to keep people updated on Julie's condition. On the blog, people from all over the country, most of whom had never met Julie, would leave comments of support and encouragement. The family began calling the people "Julie's Army of Ants."

Julie's family asked all of her "ants" to send in photos to be put into a collage of some kind so she could look at it for encouragement. The response was overwhelming and they received almost 300 photos.

Instead of a collage, I thought it would be interesting if an army of ant was carrying the photos of Julie's "ants" on their backs in a parade of photos.

This poster turned into the largest Photoshop project I've ever attempted, but it was well worth the time and effort put into it. It's tough to tell from the image above, but the poster was huge at 48 inches wide.

Julie's sisters had the poster printed and put it up in her hospital room. And the poster worked. It raised Julie's spirits when she needed it most.

A few weeks later, Thanksgiving weekend 2007, Julie passed away. Even though I never met Julie, I was glad I could be a small part in the life of someone who had obviously touched so many other people's lives.
